When was the last time you had your pool filter seviced?

If it’s been a few years since you last checked your filter and you’re not sure where to start, Poolwerx has you covered.

With a wide variety of pool filters and expert pool technicians available, ensure your pool doesn’t suffer from an underperforming filter – it could cost you more in the long run!

Regardless of the type of pool filter you have, it’s important to regularly clean, service, and maintain it so that it works at an optimum level.

In Australia, the most common pool filters are sand and cartridge, as both are relatively simple to operate and maintain, with a lifetime of approximately 5-10 years.

Durable, low maintenance, and relatively robust, sand filters require maintenance in the form of backwashing and are refilled with a specially designed pool filter sand or glass media.  They should be serviced annually by a professional and filter media may require replacing between 3-5 years, depending on how much the filter is run.

Cartridge filters require less energy and water flow to filter pool water and are a cost-effective pool filtration system as it doesn’t require backwashing. Pool filter cartridges have the ability to filter finer particles than sand filters, and contain a removable filtration element that is easily replaced when they become dirty or blocked, but usually last around 1-3 years.

If it’s time for a service or an upgrade on your pool filter, your local Poolwerx can help you decide which filter will suit you and your pool and show you how to ensure it’s filtering effectively.

Pool Filter FAQ’s

What does a pool filter do?

The purpose of the pool filter is the removal of debris so that algae and other harmful bacteria have as little chance of growth as possible. Filters are therefore an essential aspect of any swimming pool to ensure you can safely enjoy each and every swim.

How do filters work?

When pool water is circulated into the filter bed, it gets cleaned as small debris and particles are caught and trapped, and upon backwashing, are removed. This clean water then returns to the pool, leaving it sparkling clean and swim-ready.

How do I install a filter?

It’s best to leave the installation of filters to a professional. Contact your local Poolwerx for assistance on installing your pool filter and ensure you’re completely set up to keep your pool healthy.

What is the difference between inground and above ground pool filters?

The main difference between the inground and above-ground pumps is the flow rate and the fact that inground pumps can handle air as opposed to above-ground. Another main difference is the filter placement and whether it’s a side mount or a top mount. A great example of this is the Hayward Pro Series Sand Filter.
