Poolwerx Joondalup owners Irene and Ian Hughes, who operate the largest franchise operation in the Poolwerx network with over $3 million in sales, are in their tenth year with the business which now includes a flagship store in Joondalup, three satellite stores in Hillarys, Ocean Reef and Beldon, and six mobile service vans.
Mr Hughes attributed the success to enhancing their presence and service to clients after selling off the city arm of their multi-unit operation.
“We actually sold off our Perth City business which focused heavily on commercial jobs to focus on enhancing the services we provide to existing clients in other areas and that has been key to refining and improving our overall business,” he said.
“It was a big move but it’s meant going back to basics and analysing the business more closely to identify areas for growth and ways to enhance the knowledge and technical skills within our team, which has been critical to our success to date.”
The Hughes’s aren’t strangers to business accolades having been voted the best multi-unit franchise in Western Australia by the Franchising Council of Australia in 2011 and going on to achieve runners-up in the national category in the same year.
Mr Hughes said technology had been game-changer for the pool industry over the past 10 years.
“More and more pool owners are asking for pool equipment that is completely automated and in particular energy efficient to reduce their power bills. People want to be able to see how their pool is running through their smart phone – that’s where the industry is headed.
Poolwerx CEO John O’Brien said the Poolwerx Joondalup store was very deserving of their award.
“They’ve come out on top of almost 100 Poolwerx franchises across Australia and that’s not something to be taken lightly,” he said. “I congratulate them on this achievement.
“Irene and Ian are consistent high-achievers topping turnover for three consecutive years, and to see them consolidate their business over the past year and still achieve such significant growth is testament to their sound business acumen.”
